For Editors

Editors play a vital role in the scientific community. For any journal, the editor will need to encourage new and established authors to submit articles and set up a reliable panel of expert reviewers. Editors are also responsible for offering feedback to reviewers when required and ensure that any feedback to authors is constructive.

Editors must be…

  • Expertise and experience in the specialist field related to the journal
  • Publication record of a number of articles and /or books related to the specialized field
  • PhD qualification and senior research position with experience in research
  • Enthusiasm to undertake the Editor’s role, but ensuring recognition of all aspects of reality of the role and the work involved.
  • Maximise the discoverability of your journal
  • Discover the different methods of analysis available to monitor journal performance
  • Encourage submissions from authors
  • Take advantage of the industry's most comprehensive publishing ethics guidelines.

An editor should endeavour to be a leader in the specific field of practice underpinning journal content as it helps the journal development, presence and standing within the international community.

An editor should also familiarize himself with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) ‘Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors’. This has a large resource on the topic of ethical conduct of journal editors, authors and reviewers.

Depending on how the journal is managed and how it is structured, an Editor may have to make all the decisions regarding which articles to accept or reject for publication. However our journals will have Associate Editors, Assistant Editors or Section Editors to help them with making those important decisions.

Decision Making

The Editor should make an unbiased decision on submitted manuscript, based on comments of the reviewers, and the Editor's own assessment of the manuscript. The Editor should provide any of the following decisions:

  • Accept with no changes
  • Accept with Minor Revision
  • Accept with Major Revision
  • Reject

Editor's Contribution to the Journal

The Editor should be active and participate in providing new ideas or suggestions to improve the standards of the Journal.

The Editor need to submit Editorials/manuscripts to release the Journal issues regularly.

The Editor should encourage publication of peer-reviewed research, and technological advances in the path of enlightening new discoveries.
